Playoff Scenarios

With our clusterfuck of 3 teams at 7-5 and 4 teams at 6-6 fighting for 5 playoff spots, here is the breakdown of the current playoff scenario.

Reminder that our league's official tiebreak rules are based on the following (different than Yahoo standings):

1.) Highest Overall Record (Reg. Season)
2.) Best Head-2-Head of Tied Teams
3.) Highest Total Fantasy Points
4.) Highest Head-to-Head Fantasy Points

Playoff Scenario:

1) #1 Overall Seed - With a 9 game win streak and a record of 9-3, Manti Teo's GF has clinched a playoff spot, a first round bye, and the overall #1 seed

2) Fight for #2 Seed - There is a 3-way fight for #2 seed and 1st round bye between Decker Like Rice, The Dawg Pound, and Pablo
  • The Dawg Pound (7-5) vs Pablo (7-5) - These 2 division rivals face off in the final week to determine who will move to 8-5 and win the division
  • Decker Like Rice (7-5) - Needs a win against Sup Holmes (6-6) to move to 8-5
  • If Decker Like Rice loses, then the winner of The Dawg Pound vs Pablo clinches the #2 seed and a 1st round bye
  • If Decker Like Rice wins:
    • If The Dawg Pound wins his matchup, Decker Like Rice would claim #2 seed and 1st round bye due to a H2H win in week 10 (133.36-122.00)
    • If Pablo wins his matchup, Rice did not face Pablo in the regular season, so the tiebreak would be based on Highest Total Fantasy Points.  Current standings: Rice: 1560.2  Pablo: 1550.3
  • Shockingly, while the winner of The Dawg Pound vs Pablo could claim a #2 seed, the loser runs the risk of missing the playoffs altogether

3) Dogfight for a Playoff Spot - With playoff seeds 3-6 remaining, there could be as little as 3 and as many as 5 teams finishing with a 7-6.

The bottom line:
  • If you finish at 7-6, you are most likely in the playoffs unless Sup Holmes (6-6) and Welcome to the Boom (6-6) BOTH win (then we have 5-way tie at 7-6 for 4 playoff spots)
  • If you finish at 6-7, you can still make the playoffs if Sup Holmes and Welcome to the Boom BOTH lose (then we have 5 teams with at least 7 wins, and a 3-way tie at 6-7 for the final playoff spot between Sup Holmes, Welcome to the Boom, and the loser of Cry Me a Rivers vs Helmet Monster)
The breakdown:
  • Pablo (7-5) vs The Dawg Pound (7-5) - The winner at 8-5 clinches a playoff spot.  The other finishes at 7-6
  • Decker Like Rice (7-5) - Clinches playoff with win and moves to 7-6 with loss
  • Cry Me a Rivers (6-6) vs Helmet Monster (6-6) - One of these teams will finish at 7-6; The loser finishes at 6-7, but can still make the playoffs on a tiebreak if Sup Holmes and Welcome to the Boom both lose
  • Sup Holmes (6-6) - Numerous scenarios.  Can win and miss the playoffs or can lose and make the playoffs depending on a variety of tiebreak scenarios
  • Welcome to the Boom (6-6) - Numerous scenarios.  Can win and miss the playoffs or can lose and make the playoffs depending on a variety of tie-break scenarios

4) Officially Eliminated - Like the NY Giants, Horrible Joes has shown his true colors and the depth of his ineptitude this year going first to worst.  Close behind is 2nd place finisher from last year Detroit Kittens being eliminated from playoff contention already.  At least he got married this year (or is that a double negative??).  The following teams are officially eliminated, but still have next year's draft picks and 1st round byes in the toilet bowl to play for!
  • El Ninos (5-8)
  • Detroit Kittens (5-8)
  • Riggin Rigs (4-8)
  • Horrible Joes (4-8)

Suicide Pool

A belated congratulations to Horrible Joes for winning the suicide pool.  May make the sting of going from first to worst a little more bearable.  Hold that belt close while you still can!

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to all!
